Good And Fat Can Go Together

People talk a lot about why they want to be thin.  It is like thin is the only place you can be happy.  I don't agree with that, although I think thin is one of the only places you can be healthy.  That in mind, it is a worthy goal to pursue.  However, I want to take a minute and tell you a few things I am going to miss about being fat.
  • My daughter loves to push on my tummy and watch it pop back up.  She lays her head down on it and tells me how soft it is and uses me as a pillow.  I have a feeling a firm tummy will not be as much fun for her.
  • Dressing up is not really something I do because I don't have any clothes that look good on me at this weight.  That is kind of fun actually.  You don't have to worry about how you look, you just kind of go along and get spit up by the kids and roll in the dirt and it doesn't matter.
  • You get to indulge in yummy treats ALL the time.  When you are heavy there is really no incentive to say "no thank you, I think I'll pass on that gooey brownie".  Nope.  You just eat it.
  • My boobs are really big.  Yup.  Just no way around saying that.  It's a plus for sure.
  • You don't have to worry about sewing buttons back onto your clothes because none of your clothes have buttons.  They are all stretchy and comfy, with nothing to clip, clamp or clasp.
  • Other girls don't hate you because you're prettier than they are.  Come on, you know it's true.  Fat girls have lots of friends because they are not a threat to anyone.  We are just comfortable to be around.
  • When someone asks you to go out to eat with them you say "yes thank you" and enjoy a night of eating yummy food and good conversation.  Lots of food and lots of conversation = happiness.
  • You get a happy feeling when you eat really good (bad for you food).  It can be a real mood elevator when you are having a tough time.  Especially when done in excess.
So, there are just eight things I will miss about the "fat lifestyle" when it is gone.  However... don't let this post make you think I am changing my mind about losing weight.  I am determined to live a healthier lifestyle... but I don't want you to think that being heavy is all bad either.  There are pluses and minuses everywhere in life!

The Lips Have It

Time Magazine did an article awhile ago called What's the Best Diet? Eating Less Food. Their are a lot of tips offered in this article, such as cutting calories, choosing a diet, exercise recommendations and peer support.  But the bottom line is this: As for the secret to losing weight? There is none. "It's basic physiology," Loria says. "Eat fewer calories than you expend."

That is harder than it sounds though, so that is where are the diet gimmicks come in.  The Slim Fast Diet, so you don't have to do anything but drink a shake for two meals a day.  The Alli pill that rids your body of unwanted fat, Jenny Craig where you eat prepackaged foods...  The list goes on and on.  So, let me add one more gimmick to the list.  I call it the lipstick diet and I invented it myself, so you should take a look at that for sure!

I highly recommend the lipstick diet and will tell you a little story about how it worked for me today.  I ran out to make a Starbucks run (to caffeinate myself and relieve stress) and that is always a dangerous thing.  Why?  Because when I Am feeling stressed and in need of indulgences, I can rationalize eating almost anything (even on a diet).  Of course coffee shops do not help, because even if you show beverage restraint... there is still the whole case of goodies there to tempt you.  However, I thought ahead and applied Frenched (yes, that is part of the lipstick diet) before going in.  I confess that I did pause for a bit at the bakery case, but I did not order anything from it as it all looked rather bulky and like it would smudge my excellent lipstick.  So I ordered a latte and sipped it slowly and enjoyed myself with that.  Heavenly.  I think this is going to work out just fine.

Introducing JingleJeans

In case you haven't noticed a lot of people are trying to lose weight/avoid gaining weight/or simply complain about how much weight they have gained and not do anything about it. I'm not sure where I fall in that spectrum because I am just getting started but I have high hopes to be a member of the first class. Those losing weight!

Okay, can I make a confession to you all.  I just took my measurements (yes, with a tape measure) in order to see how I measured up to my first goal... and I was met with a shocking revelation.  You know that pouch of belly fat that all of us women are prone to getting (at some point in our lives).  Well.  Gulp.  Mine has grown to be FIVE inches!  My waist is FIVE inches smaller than that belly bulge that is hanging out on the front of me.  This is just no good at all.

In order to get rid of this extra five (to say nothing of what I have lurking elsewhere) I am really going to have to stick to my diet plan.  This is a super fun plan because I want to be jolly all the way back into normally sized jeans (or honestly anything that doesn't have a stretchy waist would be a good step).

I'm actually looking forward to this.  Nervous.  Yes.  Because I have a lot to lose.  If you look at the statistics on the left of this page you'll see that I have 40 pounds to lose.  I know I can do it but I will have to be dedicated and just keep going.  This is where you all come in.  I need your help.  Will you support me and cheer me on along the way?  If so... I'll do my part and keep you updated on how things are going.  I just know you'll all be wonderful, so thanks already!
